Below are the questions Anchorage folks ask us most while they're comparing movers. Yours not covered? A quick call to the office reaches Wade or Marissa, and either can talk it through.

Midnight Pioneer Movers crew loading boxes into the moving truck in Anchorage

A real mover answers, not a phone tree

Dial the yard and Wade picks up, or one of the crew who spent the day on a truck does — no menu, no distant call center working off a script. Walk us through wherever the move turns tricky — a freight elevator and a building COI at a downtown Anchorage high-rise, a third-floor walk-up off Muldoon, a JBER base gate pass, an iced-over Hillside driveway — and we have the whole day planned before your date lands.

The price is set in writing before we lift a thing

We count it room by room, fold the wardrobe boxes, pads, dollies and shrink-wrap into one figure, and hand it to you on paper first — so the number the crew bills on move day is the number you already signed off on. Nothing tacked on at the curb, nothing routed through a broker.

Box the whole place, or only what breaks

Turn the kitchen over to our packers for dish barrels, let the closets ride across still on their hangers in wardrobe cartons, or just flag the mirrors, TVs and glass tops so we cut a fitted crate for each one before it goes on the truck. How much we pack is your call, start to finish.

One crew, from your old door to your new one

The crew chief who walks your rooms at the estimate is the same one at the wheel and doing the last walk-through with you — a Spenard bungalow, an Eagle River cabin, a downtown condo looking out over Cook Inlet — so the job never gets handed off partway through.

The short of it

  • By the hour it’s $169 for two movers plus truck, or $239 for three, on a one-hour floor
  • Free coverage of 60 cents per pound comes with every load; full-value protection is available whenever you ask
  • The whole Bowl and the Mat-Su are covered, and we take moves down to the lower 48 too

The rest of it — pricing, how we’re licensed, the insurance certificates downtown buildings ask for, JBER base moves, working through winter and breakup, the long pull to Wasilla, and how your things stay covered — sits in the answers below.

Do you run the move yourselves, or is Midnight Pioneer just booking a crew for me?
Ourselves, start to finish. The trucks are ours, the movers are our W-2 employees out of Anchorage, and no part of your job is brokered out or sold as a lead.
Around Anchorage, do you charge by the hour or set a flat price?
Your pick. Local work is hourly at $169 for two movers or $239 for three, one-hour floor; or we size up the rooms and write you a single flat figure.
Does Alaska require a state moving license, and do you hold one?
The state doesn't license household movers, so there's no Alaska number anyone can hold. Our credentials are federal — US DOT and MC authority, plus a current bond and full insurance.
Say something gets scratched or broken on the job — what's covered?
You've got two options: the free tier covers 60 cents per pound, and the upgrade insures a shipment at full replacement value to $1,000,000. Interstate, you have nine months after delivery to file.
Our downtown building wants a certificate of insurance and a booked elevator before movers start — can you sort that?
Happens all the time. Give us the building's requirements and Marissa gets the certificate over early, and we hold the elevator or dock for your window so the desk waves us in.
How do you handle a move in deep winter with ice and snow?
It's most of our year. We salt and pad the walks and stairs, keep everything wrapped against the cold, and cut a clear, safe path in and out.
We're moving to the lower 48 — how does that work from Anchorage?
Two ways out: a barge from the Port of Alaska, or a drive down the Alaska Highway, both under our US DOT and MC authority. One flat written price, and the same crew loads and delivers.
Can your crew move a piano or a gun safe out of a tight downtown high-rise or down an icy Hillside driveway?
That's Travis's wheelhouse — pianos, safes and the awkward heavy stuff, moved with straps, stair-climbers and enough hands for a cramped elevator or an iced-over drive. Mention it at booking.
The same Anchorage crew stays on your move the whole way — from the first carton onto the truck to the last piece carried in and set down

How Move Day Actually Runs

  1. 1

A price in writing, usually the same day

Our part: Tell us the room count, whether it is a straight carry to the truck or a haul through a downtown elevator, and how the driveway, gate or base entrance is laid out — and a written figure is generally in your inbox before the office shuts for the evening.

Your part: Pin down your two hard dates — the move-out and the move-in — along with any building, garage, or JBER gate codes; those are what let us swap a rough guess for a locked figure.

  2. 2

Access nailed down before the truck rolls

Our part: We hold the freight elevator at a downtown high-rise, sort out driveway and street parking, file whatever certificate of insurance the HOA or building office asks for, and clear base passes and Hillside gate codes ahead of time — so the truck reaches the door instead of the crew hauling a dresser across a lot.

Your part: Let us know your last day in the old place and your first day in the new one, then flag whichever of those dates is truly fixed.

  3. 3

Wrapped, padded, tagged, then onto the truck

Our part: Couches and dressers disappear under moving blankets and a wrap of stretch film, and any hardware that comes off a bed frame or table gets bagged and taped right to the piece it belongs to — so nothing walks off between homes.

Your part: Write the destination room on the boxes you pack yourself, and keep the keys, the paperwork and anything small and valuable with you in the car, never on the load.

  4. 4

Brought in and set down where it goes

Our part: The same team that packed the truck is the one emptying it — every item set down right where you point, bed frames reassembled, and all the leftover blankets and tape cleared out on our way.

Your part: Before the truck pulls off, do a final pass through the emptied rooms alongside the lead mover, so any small fix can still happen while we’re there.

What’s a Anchorage move likely to run?

Tell us the size of the place, the date you’re targeting, and roughly what’s coming with you, and a written estimate comes back the same day. You owe nothing up front and we hold no deposit — just a number dependable enough to lock in every piece of the move.

  • Licensed, bonded and insured on every job — we run under our own US DOT and MC authority whether it’s a hop across the Anchorage Bowl or a haul to the lower 48
  • Whatever number you sign off on is the number the crew charges — tallied room by room, not eyeballed from the driveway
  • The whole crew is uniformed, kept on this company’s W-2 books, and behind the wheel of trucks we own ourselves
